Road trip to Wichita Falls, TX

I realized after transferring my pictures over to my new phone that I took some real gems that need to be on here. These are picture from our road-trip from Del Rio to Wichita Falls, Texas. The drive was long but we made it in one day. It took 9 hours including several stops due to David riding his motorcycle and Zoe having a small bladder.

This not-so-clear picture shows just how packed our little car was. Back seat was completely full! Zoe sat "shotgun" so we used her "leg-room" space for even more stuff. Everything two people and a dog needed to live in a one-bedroom apartment was in that car.

Zoe has never minded road-trips, but she was still a little stressed about having her house emptied out. Each time we left her in the empty house to run an errand she thought we were abandoning her and would bolt out the door to try and come with us. Broke my heart that she didn't understand. When we finally loaded up to head out, you can imagine her face when I opened her door and gave the "get in" command. She cuddled up to me the first half of the drive in appreciation for not leaving her.
...then slept like this the other half of the way. Don't be fooled, she had plenty of room- she chose to sleep in this uncomfortable looking position.
This was posted to Instagram as, "my view". The majority of the way, I followed David so that he could enjoy the view and I could protect him from getting run over by crazy Texas drivers. After awhile he tried following me to help with wind resistance. Both had it's pros and cons but I felt better being able to keep an eye on him.
The more north we got the greener and redder the ground became.
Our new home (at least for 2.5 months).

Zoe is transitioning. This picture perfectly depicts her first week. All the noises of apartment life kept her on high-alert. The poor thing. Kennel time was the only time she was calm- it became her safe haven. Google suggested that since moving is so hard on animals, giving them some sense of security, helps them make the transition. I kept all her things the same (kennel, toys, bedding, food dish, food, outside time) and then added in extra love and affection to calm her nerves. It worked- it's week two and she's much better. Still barks at the noises outside but no longer at the ceiling or walls. She's learning her place here and her scent is now firmly established ;)
How could she not love it here: the temperature is only in the 80's to low 90's, we border Oklahoma instead of Mexico, the big city (Dallas) is only 1.8 hours away, and there is a sunset like this or better every night!
