Spring Break Crafting!

I have been looking forward to doing this project for months! I finally had a break from school and some free time on my hands being stuck at home with a cold.
Welcome to my wall that oh-so-badly needed
SOMETHING to cheer it up:
Enter pinterest :)
I wanted something that held value being that it was one of the walls that greet our guests. I saw a cute verse idea and thought it was perfect! Finding the right verse was a challenge. I had it narrowed down to 3 and the husband was the tie breaker.

Materials:
-Sand paper
-Paint (I choose three colors for the background and one for painting letters; buy "sample colors" from home depot, they're a few bucks each with an unlimited amount of colors to choose from)
-Cheap boards (the suntanned ones are from a pallet and the other is a fence board from Home Depot that was a $1.00)
-Paint brush- a big one and then finer ones for detail painting
-Printed out verse in the font you want, sized for each board
-A piece of charcoal, tape, and a pen
-Self-leveling frame hangers

I did not worry about make the edges straight when cutting. I just made sure the verse I had sectioned out would fit properly on the different pieces. Once everything is cut to size, sand down the edges and faces- very important if the boards are old and splintery like mine were. Then paint!
Now for the very time consuming AND fun part: painting on the letters. My transfer method is simple. I print the lettering off, charcoal the back, tape in place, and trace. Step by step it looks like this:

Now paint using a detail brush:
6 hours later it will look like this :)
To hang them I choose to use a variety pack of frame hangers (self-leveling) that I got for 2 bucks at a hardware store. I use one per board, being that they aren't heavy, and so that it will be easy to hang up straight.
I measured my wall and where I wanted each board placed:

Awwww, now that's better :)
