Smoked Brisket Saturday

I've had very few events to record on our blog lately due to not having time to be fun people and not many opportunities to indulge in. Now that I've made my excuse known this Saturday David's T-38 class had their Solo/Naming party. Unfortunately most of these events are not going to be accompanied by pictures because of military standards and the necessary hazing that goes on while the women are kept safe in the house.

Over the past two weeks David and his flight mates have completed their formation solo. This means they take off, fly, and land "finger tip" away from another plane without the supervision of a instructor pilot.
They all survived and the flight commander held a party at his house to celebrate. Along with the celebrations each student received their Laughlin "call sign" and received their fair share of time in the "hot seat" for it. Call-signs are mostly acronyms that symbolize something stupid the pilot did and would much rather everyone forget; hardly ever are they fun to get or "cool". David hasn't made any monumental mistakes in his new flight and received a call sign making fun of him instead of memorializing an event of stupidity.

Being that it was a party David, offered to smoke a 14 pound brisket. THIS WAS THE MAIN EVENT! Starting the night before David washed, trimmed, and rubbed this huge slab of meat.

David got up at 7:30 to put it on the grill and while it was smoking 12 hours we  either slept or played Rock Band to pass the time. This is the final product! Look as that pink smoke ring around the edges!!!

We coupled it with a home made Texas Sauce (seen in the Makers Mark bottle) and it was gone in 15 minutes at the party.
After the food was eaten the ladies (two student wives and the four instructor's wives) we escorted indoors to chat while the guys spend the next 3-4 hours being named. They all had fun and I got to make sure several made it back to their houses in one piece. All in all I would call it a successful Saturday.
