Tah Da

Never thought I would start a blog....

...but look at me now!
Honestly I've created a blog to keep in touch with my family and friends while we're traveling the world serving our country through the Air Force. I've named the blog "Just A Partin Life" to symbolize how much change our world will have and to help remmeber all the parts. There will be beautiful memories, tough situation, wonderful changes, and much needed prayer for every part in our life and we want to keep you all in the loop.

We're working towards graduation in June for the both of us as well as commissioning for David into the Air Force. For all of you who are like me and need help with translating "military terms" into English -i'll be posting the definitions of the bold acronyms and military vocabulary  I use below. After David commissions we enter this awkward period where he isn't in ROTC but not quite Active Duty (serving full time) either. Eventually he will receive his date for when we enter Active Duty where we'll be moving to Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. We're predicting that will be leaving sometime in late December- early January. Since David has been selected to be a pilot for the Air Force he will attend 3 phases of training. Nine months of that training will happen at Laughlin (the reason for moving there), the other two months will be split between Alabama and Colorado. We're thinking that within 2 1/2 years we'll be flying full speed ahead for the Air Force.

Commissioning/ROTC:
U.S. Air Force officers are commissioned through three programs: U.S. Air Force Academy, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC-this is David's choice) and Officer Training School. The best method for a particular candidate will depend on that candidate’s background and goals.

ROTC cadets attend civilian colleges and may choose their majors, but they must take military-oriented courses throughout their four years. They also participate in regular physical conditioning and military exercises, as well as a four- to six-week field exercise during one summer. Upon graduation, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants.
